That's like saying The Witcher ripped off WoW by picking a human hunter and giving them white hair and gear like Geralt's and picking similar abilities. Hi-Rez os basically trying to go "see, OW ripped GA off" by picking builds with customizable characters and armor. GA had customizable characters where you could pick abilities from several, and these have been tailored to look as much as OW characters as possible, down to picking the right custom armor to make them look similar. This has been discussed several times in the thread. I think they gave you invites to the closed beta when you leveled up. I feel like it is not so important to note, but interesting, is that you could get a key for closed beta (without benefits of the founder's pack) very easily. The power of steam got all the attention (both positive and negative) it has now, along of course with it just being a well made game imo. It only released on steam with true open beta recently. I had bought a founder pack way earlier than I got into OW closed beta. So it definitely was released before overwatch, since that came out in 2016. Paladins hit the market, closed beta (you could buy in via founders pack or get a key a number of ways) via their website and game launcher sometime in late 2015. They've shown some of the old prototype stuff. Paladins was in development in 2011 or 2012 I think. Both games were in development far before reveal, as is normal.
